Course Description

This two-part interactive and engaging workshop will explore new ways for participants to integrate trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive practices into their work and workplaces. Participants will have an opportunity to learn and practice safety and stabilization techniques that they can share with clients. Topics covered will include an introduction to trauma responses, stigma and biases, defining trauma, trauma-informed principles, screening for trauma, the Six Dimensions of Complex PTSD, First Stage Trauma Treatment Skills, and vicarious trauma.

  • How to recognize trauma symptoms.
  • Strengthen and build on trauma-informed practices.
  • Explore how to create a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Learn about the connection between trauma and addictions.
  • Review trauma-informed skills.
  • Explore vicarious trauma – how to take care of you.

This workshop is designed specifically for helping professionals. We define “helping professional” as anyone in a position of interacting with people in providing a service.

How many people can attend?
Registration for this workshop has been capped at 35 participants.

What is a level one core QoC workshop?
This refers to a workshop that is a part of QoC’s core curriculum and is offered at a more basic, 101 level, though it can be beneficial to anyone regardless of their experience.

Will I receive a certificate for attending?
Yes, you will receive a certificate of attendance after participating in the workshop and filling out a post-course evaluation.

Will these sessions be recorded?
No, these sessions will not be recorded in order to maintain the privacy of participants, but any relevant slides and handouts will be sent to attendees.

What is your refund policy?
We can offer refunds up to seven days before the first session. Eventbrite’s fee is nonrefundable. After this period, we can accept substitutions. If we must cancel the workshop, you will receive a full refund. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Jennifer Maddan has been working in the field of addiction and mental health for 15 years and has been a registered psychotherapist since 2016. Jennifer worked for 13 years at a community addiction centre before becoming the Clinical Team Lead at a residential treatment centre providing trauma and mental health treatment for military and first responders. Currently, Jennifer continues to support individuals with a wide variety of needs in her private practice (Jennifer Maddan Counselling Services) and works part-time as a mental health clinician for the Peterborough Family Health Team.
